HMDRS Member Toby Bright recently participated as panel member for a Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education program. The webinar, titled Lawyer’s Roadmap to Massachusetts Boards of Registration (from Licensure to Litigation), explored the inner workings of various Massachusetts Boards of Registration, including healthcare related boards. Among the topics discussed were the history of professional licensure in Massachusetts and the current organization and management of the various boards. In addition, Toby and the other panelists provided an overview of the disciplinary process, from issuance of a complaint through appeal of an adjudication. The panelists discussed the impact of statutes of limitations, the application of reciprocal discipline rules, and provided tips for practitioners defending professionals in disciplinary matters, stressing the importance of early counseling.
